GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Network Security Analyst works in collaboration with all functional areas relative to information technology systems, business,
and clinical environments to support networks, applications, voice and data communications, and computing services within the
organization. The position provides advanced network, remote access, web, and application operational support and is proficient in
information security best practices and regulatory and compliance requirements that impact security for the enterprise. Adheres to
change management and configuration management policies and procedures, monitors and troubleshoots network and security
systems in a large network environment, uses diagnostic tools, and facilitates the selection and implementation of networks,
communications, security, and systems infrastructure to match the needs of the organization.

REPORTING/RELATIONSHIPS:

The Network Security Analyst reports to the Network Security Services Manager. This position will work in a collaborative effort with
IT to assure security programs and technical controls are in compliance with policies, applicable laws and regulations. Additionally,
this role will work closely with Network Security Architects and Engineers to aid in ensuring approved organization architecture
standards are properly communicated, presented and adopted by the Network Security Services team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Responsible for identifying potential security threats, responding to and remediating security incidents, completing IT
requests and project tasks, and assisting customers in remediating access issues;
 Assists with incident response, researching events of interest, and providing analysis of firewall, IDS, anti-virus and other
network sensor produced events;
 Provides expertise to team members and other departments for any network security and platform related issues;
 Acts as liaison between Network Security Services and other IPSO teams.
 Develops and constantly improves documentation including manuals, procedures, checklists, etc.;
 Ensures that any technical issues are solved and that improvements are implemented to avoid reoccurrence.
 Provides incident management support of security solutions at 150 networked locations across southeastern Michigan;
 Escalation support for the following primary infrastructure components:
 Internet Content Filtering
 Firewall Protection
 Remote Access
 Service Delivery Controller (Load Balancing, SSL Offload, Caching, App Firewall)
 Two Factor Authentication
 Digital Certificates allocation
 Interacts with client community on a daily basis;
 Provides implementation and maintenance services for IPSec and SSL VPNs connections;
 Performs analysis of security related problems such as; blocked traffic due to firewall rules & policies, Internet proxy issues,
VPN access restrictions;
 Participates in configuration & deployment of security infrastructure components involved in project solutions, and provide
documentation for support & maintenance;
 Participate in alternating after-hours and Weekend on-call schedule;
 Assist with lab testing and evaluation of hardware and software in pursuit of technical solutions;
 Participate in change management to complete project tasks and break/fix solutions;
 Contributes to the development and maintenance of the Information Privacy and Security Office Services Catalog and
Corporate Information Security policies and procedures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
 Bachelor’s Degree in a related IT Security discipline and/or comparable IT Security job experience required.
 At least five (5) years of hands-on experience with three or more infrastructure components listed:
 Firewalls (Juniper, Checkpoint, Cisco, Fortinet)
 Secure Web Gateways (Bluecoat, Websense)
 Application/Service Delivery Controllers (Citrix, F5)
 Remote Access VPNs (Juniper, Citrix, Cisco, F5)
 Three (3) years of experience security solution planning, implementation, and maintenance.
 Advanced knowledge of IP protocols, Routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), Switching, Network topologies and design, IPSEC,
VPNs and wireless networks.
 Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, IPSEC, SNMP, Syslog, HTTP(S), SSH, DHCP, DNS, RDP, LDAP, ICMP, and SMTP
protocols.
 HIPAA, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI), ISO 27000, ISO 9000 knowledge desired.
 Working knowledge of element/device management, configuration management, Active Directory, proactive monitoring and
alerting, VMWare, virtual meeting and database apps.
 Ability to multitask project load, on-call rotation, tasks and meetings.
 A service focused team player with the ability to interact with customers at all levels.
 Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills demonstrated both over the phone and face-to-face in order to
communicate technical information in non-technical terms. Ability to work under pressure, establish priorities and respond
with urgency.
 Self-motivated with excellent verbal and written skills.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
 ITIL v3.0 certification preferred or within six (6) months.
 Applicable certification preferred (e.g., CCIE, CISSP, GIAC, etc.) or obtained within two (2) years of employment.
